  • Post-it notes of suggestions for improving approach to homelessness

    Implementing PSH in Black, Indigenous, and Other People of Color Communities

    The goal of this project - through PSU’s Homelessness Research & Action Collaborative - is to identify core components of culturally-specific permanent supportive housing (PSH), and the contextual factors that support or inhibit its implementation. We are funded by the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

  • Doubled-Up PDX

    Expanding on my prior work on displacement pressure, I am exploring experiences of housing insecurity and health among Hispanic/Latinx immigrant families living doubled up in Portland, OR. This work is funded by Portland State University and the National Research Center on Hispanic Children & Families.

  • Displacement Pressure & Mental Health

    My ethnographic projects examine the embodied health experiences of housing insecurity in changing neighborhoods, using a case study of a Hispanic/Latinx immigrant neighborhood of Denver, CO. Read my writing about this work here & in Journal of Family and Economic Issues.

  • Social Justice & Environmental Quality - Denver

    As part of an interdisciplinary community science project on air quality, we partnered with Denver residents to understand and address air pollution and construction-related disruption caused by a highway expansion project and neighborhood redevelopment.   • Denver Basic Income Project

    I am leading a qualitative study on the experiences of people experiencing homelessness receiving unconditional cash transfers through the Denver Basic Income Project. Learn more about the larger effort here and read the preliminary qualitative findings here.

  • Experiences of Public Housing Redevelopment

    Using a case study of mixed-income housing development in Denver, CO, I examine the perceptions and experiences of residents undergoing HUD-sponsored public housing redevelopments. Initial findings from our research group are published in Urban Geography.

  • Colorado School-Based Health Centers

    I co-led a study on school-based health centers (SBHCs) in Colorado, examining their impact on high school graduation rates, published in Journal of Adolescent Health, as well as their impact on contraceptive access among young adults, published in Health Promotion Practice.

  • Unhealthy by Design

    Partnered with Denver Homeless Out Loud, I co-led a community-based participatory research project on the health & safety impacts of criminalizing homelessness through an urban camping ban in Denver, CO. The survey results from 484 individuals experiencing homelessness are published in Journal of Social Distress and Homelessness.
